Honeymoon at home

Durante algo más de tres años fotografié a cientos de parejas de turistas japoneses de luna de miel en Barcelona. Después de la ruta por la ciudad, las parejas me facilitaban su dirección postal, a la que les hacía llegar un CD con la selección de imágenes del tour. Por tanto, no solo realicé fotos a cientos de parejas de luna de miel, sino que recopilé cientos de direcciones postales de Japón, país que nunca he visitado personalmente.
Con Honeymoon at home completo su viaje de ida y vuelta utilizando el fotomontaje y la tecnología del viaje virtual. Tras seleccionar fotografías en las que los protagonistas, de espaldas, contemplan algún monumento en Barcelona, viajo virtualmente a sus residencias en Japón para hacer capturas de pantalla del escenario frente a sus domicilios, creando un fotomontaje en el que su figura pasa ahora a contemplar su entorno más cercano.

For more than three years I photographed hundreds of Japanese couples on their honeymoon in Barcelona. After the tour of the city, the couples would give me their home address, to which I would send them a CD with a selection of images from the tour. So not only did I take pictures of hundreds of honeymooners, but I also collected hundreds of postal addresses from Japan, a country I have never visited personally.
With Honeymoon at home I complete their round trip using photomontage and virtual travel technology. After selecting photographs in which the subjects, from their backs, contemplate a monument in Barcelona, I travel virtually to their residences in Japan to take screenshots of the scenery in front of their homes, creating a photomontage in which their figure now contemplates their immediate surroundings.

En Honeymoon at home los personajes, ataviados con su “uniforme de turista”, se enfrentan a sus espacios cotidianos en soledad, lugares vacíos que les acercan más al confinamiento forzoso que al viaje deseable.
¿Pueden ver estos espacios en su día a día con la pasión o sorpresa que les suscita un nuevo destino? ¿Son capaces de disfrutar de las pequeñas interacciones como cuando lo hacen en sus espacios de huida? ¿Les ha abierto el viaje la posibilidad de enfrentar la vida cotidiana desde otra perspectiva? ¿Por cuánto tiempo?

In Honeymoon at home the characters, dressed in their “tourist uniform”, face their everyday spaces in solitude, empty places that bring them closer to forced confinement than to desirable travel.
Can they see these spaces in their daily lives with the passion or surprise that a new destination provokes in them? Are they able to enjoy the small interactions as they do in their escape places? Has the trip opened up for them the possibility of facing daily life from a different perspective? For how long?
